2018 might have started already, but there are a lot of project coming up in the year that I am looking forward to. Some might have started already, but that doesn’t change the fact that I am still very excited for it and see where they go.
There are many projects that I am looking forward to in 2018, but here’s my top ten. This list will be in the order of release.

Zoey Johnson is going on her own in this Black-ish spinoff. Already three episodes have aired, and if the rest of the season is like the first episodes, then Grown-ish is in good hands. With a solid ensemble cast, brilliantly lead by Yara Shahidi, Grown-ish explores themes and subjects that every college student had to deal with at one point in time and yet has never really been put on screen before.
Black-ish has always been a brilliant and solid show, and the spin-off seems to be heading in the same direction. Whether or not the show will be able to follow in its big sister’s footsteps and established itself as one of the smartest show on television is something to look forward too. From it’s diverse cast to its exciting storylines, Grown-ish is something to look forward every week.

There’s a new superhero on The CW, and he isn’t like the others. Black Lightning was first developed for FOX before moving to The CW, and that might be for the best because for now, it stands on its own. But that isn’t the only thing that is different about this show, for the first time, it’s about a black superhero who isn’t at the beginning of its vigilante career but is making a comeback. And he isn’t alone because his two daughters are going to discover their powers too.
What makes Black Lightning so different is that it has something to say. It isn’t going to be like every other DCTV show that is out there, and that is amazing. If the first episode that aired this week was the standard for every episode of this show, then we are in for a treat. With its groundbreaking material, Black Lightning just had the biggest premiere for the CW in its timeslot, and that is only the beginning.

Is there any doubt that Black Panther is going to be amazing? From the very first announcement about this movie, people have been ready. The cast, the director, the little we know about the story as well as the fantastic marketing makes it that this movie will be the one to watch this year. This is the first black lead movie for the MCU, and I have very little doubt that this film will not blow everyone’s mind away.
Already breaking records in the tickets pre-sale, Black Panther is looking already to be one of the biggest movies of the year, and it isn’t even out yet. Just by the trailers, we can already tell that the movie is going to be beautiful and let’s just hope the story is as good as the trailers make it look.
Atlanta Season 2
Created by Donald Glover
The first season of Atlanta was one of the best things on television when it aired in 2016 and the second season seems to be shaping up to be as good. Even if we know very little about the new season except for a small teaser and an intriguing title for the new season, it isn’t hard to be excited about this show. The first season made sure to established Donald Glover as one of the most promising creators in Hollywood right now.
From it’s intelligent storytelling to its fantastic cast, Atlanta was a smash it from beginning to end and hoping the sophomore season is even better is not hoping for too much. With the cast returning, the writers being able to take from the current event, it’s not crazy to think that when Atlanta comes back, it will be better than ever.
A Wrinkle In Time
Directed by Ava DuVernay
In March, Ava DuVernay will make history by being the first woman of colour to have a movie with a budget of 100 million dollars on the big screen. And that is a big deal. The visionary director, a title Disney has given Duvernay in all of the marketing for the movie, is taking the world of A Wrinkle In Time from page to screen and it looks to be epic. From the fantastic cast, the set designs, the costumes, everything seems to be in place for a grand Disney movie that will stay in everyone’s memories for years to come.
It isn’t hard to think that this movie will exceed expectations. After all, the work of DuVernay has always been exceptional and with a cast composed of Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and, of course, Oprah it’s hard to doubt that it won’t blow us all away when it comes out. Newcomer Storm Reid looks to be a great casting from the little we have seen of her in the trailers that have been released for the movie.
Directed by Roar Uthaug
Look I know, adaptations of video games are almost always bad when they hit the big screen. But I have faith in this movie. I want to have faith really. The two trailers that have been release look promising and the to be faithful to the rebooted video games that the movie will draw inspiration from. With Alicia Vikander at the lead as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider has an Oscar winner at the helm, and while that might not be enough to be good, it is a good start.
While the trailers do look a bit rough around certain edges, I do still hold hope that this movie will be good and that we will finally break the video game curse. I do hope we will get a good Laura Croft movie because she deserves it and after the success of Wonder Woman it would be nice to have another female lead action movie.
Avengers: Infinity War
Directed by The Russo Brothers
Do I really need to explain myself here? It’s years in the making, it’s one of my favourite comic book stories in the whole Marvel comics, and we will finally see Thanos come to Earth and wreak havoc on it. While I do have some little things I am scared about that I feel Marvel won’t do, that doesn’t stop the fact that this movie looks epic. Captain America with a beard, The Guardians meeting Thor and the rest of the Avengers, too many characters to count on the big screen together, sign me up.
There is very little doubt that this movie will not be a success financially so let’s hope that it meets the high expectations of every fan that have been waiting for so long for this payoff that we have been promised since the very first Avengers movie. Avengers: Infinity Wars looks like an epic movie and one of the biggest film that will hit the screen, and I can’t wait to sit and watch it.
Directed by David Leitch
The first Deadpool movie was a breath of fresh air in the oversaturated world of comic book movies. Now coming back for a second time with the help of Josh Brolin as Cable, Deadpool 2 looks to be better than the first one. Still very much R-Rated and with a Ryan Reynolds in great form from what we have seen in the small marketing, it isn’t hard to get excited about this movie. With most of the cast from the first movie returning and newcomers Cable and Domino, played by Brolin and Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), it looks to be an even funnier even from the first one.
The marketing for the first movie was perfect, and the small amount we have got from this one seems to be on point. Now whether or not it’s going to hold up to the expectations of fans is something else but here’s to hoping that once again Deadpool 2 is a breath of fresh air in this comic book movie world that we live in.
The Incredibles 2
Directed by Brad Bird
You know that Titanic scene of Rose saying that she has been waiting 84 years. This is me with this movie. The only thing we know about this movie is that it will start right were the first one ended, and that is enough for me to be sold on it. The Incredibles was the best Fantastic Four movie we ever got, and this one makes me even more excited. From the very first announcement that this was coming, I knew that this movie would be part of my most anticipated movies. Even if the teaser trailer wasn’t really anything, I did become overly excited by seeing Jack-Jack and Mr. Incredible.
Will I see this movie opening day? You bet I will. This has been too long of a wait, and I am ready to give everything that I will love this movie because one it’s a sequel to one of my favourite childhood movie and second it’s a Disney-Pixar venture, and you can very rarely go wrong with that.
Directed by James Wan
I know the DCEU is in trouble. With a disappointing box office performance from Justice League that wasn’t able to capitalize on the amazing performance of Wonder Woman, the DCEU needs Aquaman to be a hit. And I have hope. For two reasons. Number one, Jason Mamoa. Mamoa’s turn as Aquaman in Justice League was one of the best things about the movie, and you can see how he embraces the role. Number two, James Wan. He is a fantastic director who has made some pretty interesting movies and has shown he knows how to handle big budget movies. His unique style will be interesting to see how he can merge it to the story of Aquaman.
This movie looks to be original and different from anything we have seen. From the setting in the underwater world and with a character that is different from everything we have seen before, Aquaman seems to be shaping up as something good for the DCEU and they do need it.
