So we’ve reached the halfway mark of the year, and we thought it would be a good idea for us to write about some of our favourite films of the year so far, so here are my top 5!
Directed by Byron Howard, Rich Moore and Jared Bush
Zootopia is the first film that I saw in theatres in 2016 and it was grand. The script got me hooked, I burst out laughing so many times that I stopped counting and the animation was amazingly well-done. I also found all the characters fascinating, which is something that can’t be said about most films.
Directed by Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane
Yes, a second animated film is making it on this list. Finding Dory is a delightful and unexpectedly good sequel to Finding Nemo. Who knew that Dory could make me cry? I certainly didn’t think it was possible. This movie is such a treat to the eyes, it’s filled with beautiful scenery and interesting turns of events that make it almost too crazy. Almost. I loved it.
Directed by Tim Miller
A sarcastic man in a spandex suit, need I say more? The script is what makes this film absolute golden. Dark humour can go oh so wrong but Deadpool never went over the edge. I’m pretty sure some of the fight scenes will become iconic, mostly because of the narration that comes with it. It’s glorious, it really is.
Now You See Me 2
Directed by Jon. M. Chu
I know that many people didn’t like this film, but I did. I think the pacing worked out great and that setting the action in China made for some very interesting scenes. Plus, the cast was stellar.
Directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen
My knees are weak for great cinematography. This film was such a treat in this area and with a cast that strong, it’s difficult not to keep someone interested. Definitely worth giving a watch.
